After the cold welcome of Llama 4Meta is launching the first in a new family of AI systems built by its recently formed Superintelligence team. The company is launching its new Muse era with Spark, a lightweight model intended for consumer use. In the future, Meta plans to offer more capable versions of Muse, but for now, it’s clear that the company wants to get the basics right.
At this point, many of Spark’s capabilities are table stakes for a new model in 2026. For example, it offers both “Instant” and “Reflect” modes. Once enabled, the model will take a few additional moments to reason via a prompt. Other consumer-facing AI systems have enjoyed this type of flexibility for some time. Anthropic, for example, was one of the first AI labs to offer a “hybrid reasoning model” upon release. Claude Sonnet 3.7 at the beginning of last year. That said, Meta plans to add an even more powerful “Contemplation” mode in the future.
Muse Spark can also coordinate multiple AI sub-agents to respond to a request. Meta suggests that users will see this feature in action when asking for help with tasks like planning family trips.
