If I wasn’t stressed every time I sat down to watch an episode, I’d cry about it The Pitt season 2 is coming to an end. Our favorite ER’s chaotic Fourth of July crew has been on our screens since January, but all terrible things must end.
And it was terrible. We’ve seen patients die, the aftermath of sexual assault, a child potentially abused, and a truckload of bodies (live, don’t worry) pour in after an incident at a water park. For our medical team, it’s just another day at work.
With one episode remaining before the hit HBO Max show’s annual hiatus, absolutely anything could happen — especially the permanent departure of Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) after spending the better part of the last two seasons in inner turmoil.

“It’s a lot more character-driven than season 1.”
“There’s a few… there’s a real surprise coming at you at an alarming rate,” Dourif tells me of the Season 2 finale of The Pitt. “There’s a lot to come. I think season 2 is a lot more character-driven than the first one, which was really about everyone at the center of this mass casualty event.”
Of course, at this point in Season 2, a shooting at a nearby school meant the emergency room was overrun with teenage victims, with a potential suspect holed up in one of the hospital’s interrogation rooms. Tensions were high and the drama continued over the final four episodes of the season.
This time, the stakes seem much lower, with no massive losses in sight.
“Season 2 is a lot more about particular characters reaching a point of conflict and then finding resolution. I’m sorry to be so vague,” Dourif continues.
“It’s a great season. In fact, I think we even found our groove a little bit more in Season 2 than Season 1, which was a real fear on everyone’s part doing the show because it was so well received in Season 1. We were like, ‘Can we do this again without this format of something as big as mass casualties?'”
On the plus side, this means our big surprise waiting in store won’t be the one that kills anyone. With The Pitt season 3 already confirmed, Supriya Ganesh (Samira Mohan) is already set to leave.
At an HBO Max UK release event, Wyle confirmed that the story arcs for Season 3 were still in development, with character changes attributed to the ER being a teaching hospital, meaning unusually high staff turnover.
As long as the others are safe, I’m happy to let them The Pitt The season 2 finale is underway… even if I’m going to be surprised one last time.
