Dispatch restores censored content to Switch 2 with new update

When the superhero adventure game Dispatch made its way to the Nintendo Switch And Switch 2 in January, players noticed that the game was censored as black bars concealed partially naked bodies and obscene gestures. Developed AdHoc Studio said it was working with Nintendo to resolve these issues, and it appears a new update will bring back all censored content if players choose.

The HR Violations Pack for Dispatch went live on Wednesday and with it a visual filters setting to change in-game censorship. Players can now decide whether they want to remove the black bars from the Switch 2 version or add them to versions on other platforms, but depending on the region their choices may be limited.

For Switch players from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, they will have access to full or partial body coverage of the characters, while players from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Southeast Asia will only have full body coverage. There are different coverage options: the standard blackout bars, a mosaic effect, or what the developer calls a chaotic style that will offer more creativity with censorship, such as a character’s bare private parts covered by denim shorts. Only Japan region limits game censorship to ban bars.

Ad hoc studios

“We’ve confirmed that Switch players can now see all the tits, butts, and birds (aka, lewd gestures) they want in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand,” Nick Herman, co-founder of AdHoc Studio, said in a Discord message on Wednesday.

The studio didn’t provide much explanation in January as to why the game was so heavily censored, but Herman clarified things in his Discord post, saying that as the game’s launch day on Switch 2 approached, the team learned that the game would need some censorship for certain regions. Not having had time to make all the necessary changes for the different regions, AdHoc Studios has decided that all versions use the most restrictive settings, which appear to be those for Japan, according to the regional options mentioned previously.

Dispatch is AdHoc Studios’ first game, and it received praise for its story and characters, voiced by Aaron Paul and Jeffrey Wright. Last year, it was named one of CNET’s favorite games of 2025.
