The family of the doodle shot by Los Angeles police during a New York Knicks celebration says they will sue if the LAPD doesn’t admit wrongdoing… TMZ has learned.

The dog’s family tells TMZ of its owner: Marie-Marseillehired a lawyer while an investigation is underway shocking shot of the beloved 2-year-old poodle mix named Jameson on Saturday…and she’s ready to fight the LAPD for Jameson to get justice.

The lawyer, Brett Greenfieldtells TMZ… “If the LAPD doesn’t handle this matter appropriately regarding the officer and my client, I will file a complaint. We play to win, it’s that simple. We’re not happy about it.”

He adds: “I want them to take responsibility. I want them to admit that what they did was unjustifiable.”

Greenfield tells us the family is very keen to get answers about why and how this could have happened. He explains, “I don’t know how you’re going to justify shooting bullets at a dog, so close to its owner, where the round lands near his feet, when you’re responding to the home of a lady who is home alone and just celebrating her beloved Knicks and yelling on the phone to her family.”

He says he needs the LAPD to take “appropriate” action against the officer… but declined to say exactly what he thinks those actions might be. He notes that the Marseille family is not worried about the money at the moment, explaining that “it’s an emotional loss and the family wants accountability.”

As we told you, the LAPD responded to a call about a woman screaming in her apartment Saturday night after the Knicks won the NBA championship. Law enforcement says Jameson charged their officers after Marie was ordered to restrain him, leading to his shooting death.

Mayor Basse has called for a “thorough and transparent” investigationwhile the LAPD Chief McDonnell also said that there would be a multilevel, transparent review of tragedy. Greenfield says the family is incredibly touched by the outpouring of support from the public and local officials.

The family raised nearly $200,000 on GoFundMe following the massacre of Jameson… and Marie’s sister Vanessa told TMZ that the money would be used for his cremation as well as create a non-profit organization in his memory who will help dogs in need.

On Tuesday, the family had not received an apology from the police officers involved in the shooting.
