Gray Jeans was an iconic part of X-Men and the Marvel canon for decades, so it’s no surprise that there’s currently a lot of speculation about who might play the character in the MCU. Currently there is countless rumors Sadie Sink is Jean Gray in the next Spider-Man: A Whole New Day. Meanwhile, the character is expected to return in X-Men ’97 in July, and she is also confirmed for Marvel’s Wolverine in September.
In fact, there was a lot of excitement when Jean Gray was revealed in the latest Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay trailer. Considering the complicated relationship she has with Logan, it’s really promising that she’ll appear in the game. Fans were quick to speculate (or perhaps just hope) that Jean would be playable in Marvel’s Wolverinebut Insomniac has since stated that only Logan/Wolverine will be playable in the upcoming game.
Despite all this, Marvel fans are rather impatient to see the new Jean Gray appear. It’s over Redditone fan even shared the apparent confirmation that while Jean won’t be playable, there will be missions in which she works alongside Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine. So while it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to control the character, she’ll at least join us for some missions.
Of course, many fans are disappointed that we won’t be playing as Jean, especially since early leaks of the game make her playable. “We literally SAW Jean Gray gameplay“, reads one of the comments on Reddit. “It created so much hype and we found out we wouldn’t actually play like her.“
Still, that hasn’t stopped people from loving its new design, which looks a little rougher and more closely resembles Famke Janssen’s portrayal in the film. X-Men movies. “This Jean had seen things,” reads another response.
Others have speculated that Insomniac is lying to try to avoid spoiling Jean Grey’s playable sections, but that seems far-fetched given that Insomniac explicitly stated that only Logan/Wolverine was playable. If nothing else, it’s exciting to have this new version of Jean Grey.
From the extended gameplay trailer, which you can see above, you can see Jean Gray in action. Honestly, it looks really cool, so it’s no wonder everyone is excited to finally see her in Marvel’s Wolverine. The game releases in September, so thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to see these versions of Jean Gray and Logan in action.
