THE Spice Girls Those days may be long gone, but the stories of the group’s escapades are as fresh as ever.
Mel C recently opened up about a tense encounter that nearly derailed her career as a member of the iconic group before it even really began. The singer shared details of a heated exchange with another band member during a high-profile industry event.
This revealing story comes months after Victoria Beckham called her days with the Spice Girls “pretty triggering.”
How Mel C was almost kicked out of the Spice Girls group

Mel C has opened up about how a minor confrontation almost ended her time with the Spice Girls before their music reached audiences. While appearing on the latest episode of “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” the performer recalled an incident that occurred at the 1996 BRIT Awards, before the release of their massive debut track, “Wannabe.”
The group was celebrating an exciting evening around a table with rock icon Lenny Kravitz when things took an unexpected turn at the end of the evening.
After enjoying champagne, Mel C turned around as they walked to their vehicle and directed a harsh sentence at Beckham, telling him to “fuck off.”
Even though the pop singer went to bed thinking the night was just a fun experience, she woke up the next morning to major consequences. Two of his fellow performers, Mel B and Geri Halliwell, expressed deep disapproval of his actions, causing him to fear for his future.
“I was scared because I thought I was going to lose everything,” she said. Reflecting on that close call, Mel C noted that she was given an absolute ultimatum, recalling, “I was told in no uncertain terms that if anything like that ever happened again, I would leave.”
Victoria Beckham reflects on her past experiences with the Spice Girls
Even though a drunken incident nearly ended Mel C’s relationship with the Spice Girls, the emotional weight of that entire musical era left a huge mark on the performers, even decades later.
As The Blast previously reported, Beckham admitted that it had been incredibly difficult to reclaim his identity from that famous period.
The fashion designer confessed that she felt strongly characterized by this short chapter in her life, and that it took her almost two decades to finally feel safe enough to handle it all.
Describing the process of answering questions about her time in the iconic group, she said: “I’m not going to lie, being asked about my time in the Spice Girls was pretty triggering.”
Even with the heavy emotional burden of looking back, she maintains a deep connection with her former teammates. She made it clear that she had immense warmth for the group, stating: “I love the Spice Girls, I really do.”
The band’s milestone anniversary was canceled
Although the Spice Girls still have a deep bond due to their shared history, plans to celebrate their longevity on stage have failed.
According to The Blast, Mel C has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated 30th anniversary production has been canceled. The unexpected cancellation ultimately came as a result of the five members failing to agree on the logistics of the event.
Despite the current setback, Mel C stressed that the group remained in constant contact and looked forward to coordinating a joint project whenever the timing aligned.
Mel B addressed the complexities behind planning a meeting
Even though arrangements for the Spice Girls’ birthday celebration have been halted due to lack of agreement, another important voice in the group is refusing to let the dream die.
Mel B has openly expressed that she is far from ready to give up on the idea of reuniting with her four former bandmates.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity to celebrate their longevity together, the singer said, “In a perfect world, we would already be on tour right now, traveling all over the world,” according to The Blast.
The singer made it clear that her loyalty to the group’s legacy runs deep, saying she is “always ready to go on tour with the Spice Girls.”
The Spice Girls briefly reunited earlier this year
Mel B’s appreciation for her time with the Spice Girls seemed to resonate with the group’s other members, as they all came together to briefly celebrate one of their own in late January.
The Blast reported that the group got together for a big party, celebrating Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday. Even though Mel B was absent from the festivities, she made sure to send the birthday girl a thoughtful note from afar.
All four former band members posed for a photo during the celebration, each looking comfortable and excited to be there. The next day, Beckham delighted fans by sharing the group’s heartwarming portrait on Instagram, expressing his love for his longtime sisters.
