Star Field is an ambitious game. It takes the standard Bethesda RPG systems we know and love and sets them on distant star systems and thousands of procedurally generated planets. It doesn’t quite constitute the studio’s best game, but it creates the conditions for some pretty cool and fairly immersive exploration. Except the loading screens, which are numerous. Including every time you take off from the surface of a planet. Until now.
Thanks to a new mod almost three years after the game’s release, there is an option for smooth takeoff in the PC version of the game. The very explicit labeled “SFSE Transparent Planetary Takeoffs (Beta)”0xBobby’s mod makes it so that there is no camera cutout when you go into orbit. Your ship simply rises through the clouds, leaves the atmosphere, and finally appears in orbit around the planet.
“This mod aims to remove the loading screen when taking off from a planet and make your ship appear above the landing site for a smooth experience,” writes 0xBobby. “The mod is currently in beta, so expect some bugs. How smooth the transition will be will depend on the planet’s atmosphere and weather, I’m working to make the transition even smoother.”
Since Starfield’s launch, one of the biggest requests from some players has been the ability to take off from a planet and seamlessly fly through space without a loading screen.
Personally it never bothered me too much, but for others it was at the top of the wish list… pic.twitter.com/4RrsUigEZ7

This essentially leads Star Field in agreement with space simulations like No Man’s Sky which allow you to explore the galaxy at your leisure without being forced to watch a bar load at the bottom of some concept art. Smooth takeoffs are all well and good, but what about smooth landings? Don’t hold your breath.
“As many people have asked, I’m going to share my thoughts on smooth landings here,” 0xBobby continued. “That will probably never happen, at least not on my part. Yes, I know all the tricks I could use, hiding loading through clouds or entrance flames etc, but even that would be way more complex than what this mod does or smooth grav jumps. Plus they don’t really appeal to me, if I want smooth landings I want the whole thing, No Man’s Sky-style. I can attempt this, but the chances of this happening are practically zero.
Modders aren’t the only ones who continue to work hard on exciting new features for Star Field. Bethesda recently confirmed it will continue to work on new story content for the game which will be released sometime in 2027. In the meantime, the studio will also continue to add paid “Creation Club” mods to the game for PC and console players to experience.
