Since the game’s release in 2016, the items you sell Valley of Stars have always just… been sent into the void. Of course, Lewis technically picks them up every night, but you never see him actually collect or use the items you harvest, cook, and gather, so they can feel a bit useless at times.. However, over the past six months, one modder has been working to change that with an ambitious new project.
On Saturday, Nexus Mods user bubuge12 uploaded a mod called Farmers Storewhich allows players to manage their own supermarket. According to the game’s description, it includes “a Overcooked”Cooking in Style” as well as inventory management, employee hiring, advertising and compatibility with several of Stardew most popular mods, with multiplayer support currently in progress. Better yet, Valley villagers come to your store to buy your items!
That’s a lot to put together in just six months! And, according to the reviews on Nexus Mods, everything works pretty well.
There are unfortunately some caveats here. The mod is only partially available in English, as the resource text is limited to Chinese. But there is already a Russian translation available for fans, and commentators on Reddit post from bubuge12 practically claw at the modder’s door and beg them to localize it into English (or offer to do it themselves).
One more thing: some of the mod’s dialogue was generated by AI. It at least seems like there are no new storylines or characters, just flavor text for things like the villagers’ reactions. And bubuge12 said that “only about 20% of text is generated by AI” and that they plan to replace it with their own work in the future.
At first I was super excited about this mod, but it’s hard for me to feel good about playing anything with AI-generated text, so I’m holding off for now. In the meantime, at least I have an eerily similar management sim. RPG Chief to help me out.
