Woman alleged to have stalked Greens senator appears in court

A woman accused of stalking and threatening WA Greens senator Jordon Steele-John is ordered to stay away from him.

A woman has appeared in a Perth court accused of stalking and threatening WA Greens senator Jordon Steele-John.

The 40-year-old is charged with one count of aggravated stalking with intent to intimidate, and demanding property by written threats.

She appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday, and was granted bail with conditions, including that she not contact Senator Steele-John.

However, her identity was suppressed by Magistrate Clare Stanyer due to an "ongoing matter".

The woman is next due in court on February 25.

Separately, Senator Steele-John took leave from parliament in October after a group of current and former party staffers wrote to Greens leader David Shoebridge about "multiple allegations of serious misconduct" by the senator, relating to his "behaviour in the presence of women".

Senator Steele-John has denied the allegations, saying rumours had been weaponised by a faction of the Greens.

The allegations are now the subject of an external "workplace investigation" by Perth law firm Modern Legal, commissioned by the WA branch of the Greens.

The inquiry will investigate Senator Steele-John's "individual behaviour and allegations", and a "crisis comms" document about how the WA Greens would manage allegations about him.

The investigation is scheduled to last six weeks, with a final report due in eight weeks.

Senator Shoebridge has previously said he would not prejudge the inquiry, and that it was appropriate for Senator Steele-John to take leave.

Senator Shoebridge's office declined to comment on the ongoing court matter, and the inquiry.

Senator Steele-John's office has been contacted for comment.
