Can Trump and Kristi Noem stand by their blatant lies in the face of multiple videos showing the victim trying to flee when she was shot three times by an ICE agent?
Law enforcement and a protester at the scene after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis on January 7.
(Stephen Maturen/Getty Images) Sometimes reality is too scripted. But the victim’s name turned out to be Good.
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was murdered by ICE agents in Minneapolis Wednesday morning. She appeared to be trying to turn away from an ICE caravan, when an agent ran up to her window and shot her three times, apparently in the face. We didn’t learn his name until several hours later. This was ICE’s ninth shooting since September. She was an American citizen (and white).
If the videos of Good’s murder – there are many viewing angles – showed the gunshot wounds, they would be removed from (most) social media. The networks would never air them. Because somehow no angle shows bloody carnage, we can watch several videos, which for me were almost equally devastating. She might have started by blocking an ICE show of force procession. It’s not even clear yet. After hearing the gunshots, the videos showed Good’s Honda veer sharply left, then crash into parked cars; then we heard the car horn. I don’t know if it’s because she crashed into it, or if that’s what cars do when they crash. I’m lucky not to know.
This is the longest video I witnessed the murder and its aftermath. It’s very difficult to watch.
There is a video of a doctor who was her neighbor, trying to find out if she was okay. ICE did not allow it.
We saw video of her neighbors begging ICE agents to go to Good’s car to see if she was alive. ICE blocked them.
Current number
We also saw video of a white airbag covered in red blood inside his car. His glove compartment was filled with stuffed animals. She had a 6 year old child. His partner I stood on the sidewalk screaming when she was shot.
Contacted by journalists, Good’s mother said“She was probably terrified.… She was loving, forgiving and affectionate.”
That was not the line from Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem. She insisted that “the rioters began blocking the ICE officers and one of these violent rioters armed his vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them,” after which an ICE officer fired “defensive shots.” (She repeated this bullshit a few hours later, after we saw videos proving her lie.)
Donald Trump, a notorious liar, echoed Noem.
“I just watched the clip of the event that took place in Minneapolis. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman who was screaming was obviously a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructive and resisting…”
This is all horrible to watch, but not for the reason the liar claims. Are we really at a point in our society where this lie can prevail over multiple video angles that show the woman trying to run away when she was shot three times, at close range, by an ICE agent? I don’t pray.

Mayor Jacob Frey immediately called it bullshit, literally. “Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everyone directly that this is bullshit,” Frey said at a press conference. “This was an agent recklessly using his power, which resulted in someone’s death.” He followed up with “a message to ICE: get the hell out of Minneapolis!” »
Governor Tim Walz, who had just announced that he would not run for reelection, not primarily because of the welfare fraud scandal ravaging the state, but because of threats against his family, showed courage.
“We’ve been warning for weeks that the Trump administration’s dangerous and sensationalist operations pose a threat to our public safety, that someone was going to get hurt,” Walz said, adding to his fellow Minnesotans: “I feel your anger. I’m angry.” He then asked protesters to “please do it peacefully, like you always do… Don’t allow them to invoke the Insurrection Act. Don’t allow them to declare martial law.”
I hope local protesters listen to Walz. Trump is looking for an excuse to unleash violence, and yes, martial law. Local protesters followed ICE from the scene of the killing as its agents appeared to retreat, content to occasionally throw snowballs at them. ICE has not yet responded.
Remember, ICE got millions more to recruit more agents, and reduced the qualifications needed to join the ignorant agency. The guy who murdered Renée Nicole Good is still free. This tragedy will happen again. But I hope anti-ICE Minnesotans can make the history of nonviolent protest, because these fascists, given the chance, will make it an excuse not only for anti-democratic repression but also for bloodshed.
Protect each other, please.
