Justin Timberlake doesn’t want his DWI video released and is fighting hard to keep it from becoming public.
The singer was involved in a DWI incident in the Hamptons in 2024 that led to his arrest and subsequently resulted in him having to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service and pay a fine.
Reports now claim that Justin Timberlake’s efforts to stop the video from being released go beyond his petition claiming it could cause him “serious and irreparable harm.”

Although nearly two years have passed since his DWI incident, Justin Timberlake is still dealing with the repercussions of his actions.
The singer was arrested in June 2024 during a traffic stop in the Hamptons, with reports at the time claiming he reeked of alcohol, failed a sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer.
Later that year, the “Selfish” singer was sentenced to community service and fined, but he now risks having video of the incident made public and has decided to block it.
Although this possibility is still to be determined, sources revealed that Timberlake’s pressure not to release the video goes beyond what is cited in the motion he filed in court.

“It’s the tone. The right. The attitude. It’s messy,” a source told Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop. “And that conflicts with the image he’s selling.”

The images could destroy the ‘polite and controlled’ image the singer has built for years
Over the years, Timberlake has focused on rebuilding his public image, including apologizing to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson for his controversial situations with the duo.
The singer also showed an emotional side when discussing his struggles with Lyme disease, which he first revealed in a social media post in July 2025.
As such, it is believed that the DWI footage could do more than just damage the carefully crafted public image that Justin Timberlake has worked to build.
“Her brand is polished and controlled,” another source said. “If this footage is released, people will see an unfiltered moment that will undermine all of that.”

Another insider also pointed out that Timberlake is aware of the public’s ruthlessness and is not willing to take that risk despite the lack of any legal implications.
“He knows the Internet never forgets,” the source explained. “A viral clip could follow him forever.”

Justin Timberlake recently filed a petition to block the release of the video
Earlier in the week, Timberlake filed a motion to block the release of his DWI video after receiving notice that there was a Freedom of Information Act (FOIL) request for release, according to The explosion.
In his filing, Timberlake cited several reasons why the court should stop release of the video, one of them being that it “contains personally identifying information and private details that are not relevant to a public interest law enforcement action.”
“The footage in question shows Petitioner in an extremely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement, capturing intimate details of Petitioner’s physical appearance, demeanor, speech and conduct during field sobriety tests, the subsequent arrest, and Petitioner’s detention following his arrest over the next several hours,” Timberlake added.

Singer concerned about ‘harm caused by public exposure’, court documents reveal
Elsewhere in the petition, Timberlake claimed he would suffer “irreparable” harm if the video was released.
“The damage caused by public exposure – stigmatization, harassment, reputational damage and permanent loss of privacy – is immediate and irreparable,” the document also states.
During an impromptu hearing on the case Monday, Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice Joseph Farneti urged Timberlake and the police department to mediate and see if a resolution could be reached.
Justin Timberlake obtained a temporary injunction to prevent the video from being released
According to News dayno deal between Timberlake and police was reached, with the singer only granted a temporary restraining order over the footage on Thursday.
With the order in effect, the police department now has until April 9 to submit necessary documentation in support of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIL) request made by members of the media seeking release of the video.
If the documents prove insufficient, the footage could ultimately be made secret from the public in accordance with Timberlake’s wishes.
