President Donald Trump declared talks on Sunday to end the war with Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz are underway, but he urged his negotiating team not to rush into a deal.

Trump’s comments on Social truth are largely a continuation of the status quo from Saturday, when Trump said a deal with Iran was “widely negotiated.” Trump said “time is on our side” to end the nearly three-month-old conflict that has upended global energy markets and sent U.S. gasoline prices soaring.

There can be no mistakes!”

The president said the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in effect until “an agreement is reached, certified and signed.”

According to MS Now, the agreement currently being negotiated would open the Strait of Hormuz, end hostilities, unlock certain Iranian assets and guarantee the continuation of negotiations to curb Tehran’s nuclear program.

Trump said in the Truth Social post that Iran “must understand, however, that it cannot develop or obtain a nuclear weapon or bomb.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a social media post Sunday that he spoke Saturday evening with Trump about the “memorandum of understanding for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the upcoming negotiations towards a final agreement on the Iranian nuclear program”.

The Israeli leader said any deal with Iran must include limiting its nuclear capabilities, which Netanyahu said means “dismantling Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites and removing enriched nuclear materials from its territory.”

He also said Trump “reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against threats on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

Israeli strikes in Lebanon have been a sticking point in past negotiations between the United States and Iran.
