Outbursts aimed at deterring ‘status quo’ strategy at heart of Macron’s visit

As French President Emmanuel Macron made a historic visit to his Syrian counterpart, several bombs exploded near the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus, downtown, where Macron is reportedly staying. But the two presidents do not seem to be discouraged, because this visit marks a historic moment for post-Assad Syria: Macron is the first Western leader to visit Syria since Al-Sharaa came to power.
