22-year-old Georgia City mayor under investigation for alleged spending habits

A young Georgia mayor is under investigation for his alleged spending habits…and the city he was elected to govern has taken away his city-issued credit cards while the investigation unfolds.

22 years old Jayden Williams was sworn in as mayor of Stockbridge just six months ago…but according to Atlanta News Firstlawmakers passed a resolution last week restricting his access to non-public areas, his use of city vehicles and his use of city funds through his city-issued credit card.

Williams was ordered to surrender his credit card and stop using city-owned cars… Williams had a deadline of Monday, but the mayor was pro-mandated Elton Alexander said he didn’t know if Williams had complied. However, municipal authorities claim they can deactivate the credit card remotely.

Alexander said the city council received “information” last week that raised red flags about Williams’ spending. It’s unclear exactly what Williams allegedly spent the money on, or how much money is involved here.

Williams was not charged with a crime Wednesday…and the investigation continues. While the investigation progresses, Williams can still chair council meetings and continue to perform his other duties as mayor.

In a statement, Williams’ team said… “Mayor Williams welcomes a full and independent investigation and looks forward to the opportunity to respond to any allegations through the appropriate process.”
