The Tamil Nadu government has decided to constitute district-level advisory committees, headed by the respective District Collectors, to address the grievances of sales taxpayers and resolve issues relating to sales tax administration at the district level.
The committees will meet once every three months to discuss issues relating to sales tax and take necessary steps to address the grievances raised by taxpayers. The decision was taken following a meeting chaired recently by Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D. Logesh Tamilselvan.
The Joint Commissioner (State Tax), the Deputy Commissioner (State Tax) [other than the one stationed at the headquarters], the Deputy Commissioner (Intelligence), members from the respective districts who are part of the State-level Sales Tax Advisory Committee, the Superintendent or Assistant Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner (Central Tax), and the general manager of the District Industries Centre will be members.
The ex-officio members will include one Member of the Legislative Assembly from the district concerned, two representatives each from farmers, industries and traders (wholesalers and retailers), and one representative each from cooperative institutions, cottage industries and consumer forums.
The Deputy Commissioner (State Tax) stationed at the headquarters of the respective district will function as the secretary of the committee. The Joint Commissioners (State Tax) of all divisions have been instructed to constitute the committees in their respective districts by November 30. These committees will remain in operation until November 30, 2029.
