Madonna returned to Coachella for the first time in over a decade, taking the stage as a surprise guest during Sabrina Charpentierwill headline the second weekend of the music festival. The unexpected appearance sparked a strong reaction from the crowd, reigniting excitement about the pop legend’s enduring stage presence and offering a preview of what to expect from his upcoming album.
Maddona performed three songs with Sabrina Carpenter
On April 17, Sabrina Carpenter had a major surprise for her fans when she headlined weekend two at Coachella. Midway through her song “Juno,” the music switched to Maddona’s 1990 hit song, “Vogue,” and the Queen of Pop emerged from the stage.
The two singers then performed a duet believed to be from Madonna’s upcoming album, on which Carpenter would appear. After the song, Madonna expressed her gratitude to Carpenter for inviting her to perform at Coachella, to which the latter responded, “No need for thanks, Madonna. You can have whatever you want.” Madonna then interacted with the audience for a few minutes before performing the iconic song “Like a Prayer”, released in 1989.
After Madonna’s appearance, Carpenter sang three more songs before finishing her set.
The Queen of Pop’s “Full Circle Moment”
While speaking to the audience, Madonna shared how special this moment was for her, as it had been 20 years since her first Coachella performance. “20 years ago today I was performing at Coachella. I was in the dance tent and it was the first time I performed ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor Pt. 1’ in America,” she shared, referring to her 10th studio album released in November 2005.
“You can imagine how exciting it is for me to come back 20 years later with the same boots, the same corset, the jacket that I wore earlier, the same Gucci jacket. So it’s like a full circle, very meaningful for me,” Madonna said.
In 2015, the singer performed as a guest on Drake’s set at Coachella, sparking a viral moment when the iconic singer kissed the Canadian rapper. This year marks Madonna’s third appearance at the music festival.
Madonna talked about astrology

Madonna has long been interested in astrology and is even said to use it as a guide when collaborating with others. In 2023, television producer Ryan Murphy said he lied to Madonna about her birthday on someone’s advice, after learning that the singer did not work with Scorpio, which was her zodiac sign. He ended up telling Madonna about her mother’s birthday and he was hired.
At Coachella, Madonna highlighted “the Taurus new moon,” which Carpenter explained by saying, “She’s pointing at me because I’m a Taurus. Just so you know.” Madonna then took a “quick course in astrology,” explaining that people need to work on their communication skills and “avoid confrontations.”
“Because Aries is ruled by the planet Mars. Mars is the planet of war. So, under all circumstances for the rest of the month, let’s try to get along, okay?” she explained, before saying that music brings people together.
The Queen of Pop released her new single
Days before her Coachella appearance, Madonna revealed a new single, “I Feel So Free,” from her new album, giving fans a one-minute preview of the track, which was uploaded to her YouTube channel. On March 17, the full song debuted on LGBTQ+ station Pride Radio, as reported NME.
Several hours after her Coachella performance, Madonna posted the full track to her YouTube channel. Fans of the pop icon were elated, with one commenting, “I’m so happy to exist at the same time and in the same space as Madonna,” and another adding, “WE’RE SO READY FOR THIS NEW ERA!”
Many gave the song positive feedback. As one noted: “The song is totally hypnotic. The sound is crazy – it goes loud. The bass line is crazy,” followed by four jaw-dropping emojis. “Chaotic trance and 90s vibe… clean vocals and high bass… very engaging dance song… pure Madonna,” another commented.
Madonna’s new album is a sequel to “Confessions”
Madonna’s upcoming album, “Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II,” is a follow-up to her 2005 album, which featured hits such as “Hung Up,” “Sorry,” “Get Together” and “Jump.” The new album reunites singer and producer Stuart Price and is described as a high-energy, “spiritual” dance record.
“We need to dance, celebrate and pray with our bodies. These are things we have been doing for thousands of years – they are truly spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritual space,” Madonna said in a press release.
“Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II” will be released on July 3.
