In 1993, Dutch developers Team Hoi began working on Child of the Moonan Amiga platform game featuring the titular Green Space Boy with a dinosaur-like companion. The Amiga version was never released commercially and its eventual 1997 PC port only had a regionally limited release. The game builds have been available online for yearsbut a recent article by Games that were not has seemingly sparked a frenzy of love and shitposts, calling out its original creators on social media.

Child of the Moon presents much of your standard The weirdness of Amiga. Fast paced, floating, vibrant, overloaded, unrefined. Like a dream you had while playing Super Mario. A joyful and fun prototype, Child of the Moon began looking for a publisher, even building a prototype for Psychnosis’ attention (their famous title card opening one of the constructions). When Commodore and the Amiga went bankrupt, the Hoi team turned to creating a PC version from scratch. When this was released in 1997, resources were quite limited. The game was not released outside of the Netherlands.
Even though everyone likes tiny goblins, what attracts everyone is that they are extremely catchy demo stage music. A thematic piece peppered with odd lines like “The story is true” and “You have the power to be his friend,” the latter phrase so magnetic and hypnotic it may never leave my mind. Once these assets and samples are isolated and shared, it’s off to the races.

After just a few days, the food was carefully seasoned with Child of the Moon mania. Fan art, remixes, videos, shitposts, including YTP icesnort lighting. It’s an outpouring of affection for a game that’s struggling to get released. The original creators would like to pay tribute to this kind gesture. Since resurfacing on social media, Seven has started sharing all kinds of Child of the Moon goodies including vintage photos, concept art, storyboards, design documents, assets and source files. All materials that will ensure Child of the MoonThe second lunar life orbits around its origin.
