In 2019, Carano joined the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” as Cara Dune, a shock trooper of the New Republic. She was rumored to star in a spinoff series, “Rangers of the New Republic,” which was apparently canceled after she was fired by Lucasfilm in 2021 for her controversial social media posts. She has since spoken about her subsequent trial and her dealings with Dave Filoni, Jon Favreauand co-star of “The Mandalorian” Pierre Pascal.
In the legal war of Gina Carano’s “Star Wars”
In February 2021, Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano after a series of social media posts went viral. Shortly after her “The Mandalorian” co-star Pedro Pascal added his gender pronouns to his Twitter bio, Carano changed his to “beep/bop/boop,” which some took as a mockery of the transgender community.
She also received harsh criticism for her conservative social media posts during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the final straw seemed to be when she re-shared an Instagram post that apparently compared the way American conservatives are treated to the way Jews were treated in Nazi Germany.
A Lucasfilm spokeswoman called the messages “abhorrent and unacceptable” and she was fired from the series. Three years later, she sued Disney for wrongful termination with the financial support of Elon Musk. The lawsuit was settled in August 2025. Although terms of the settlement were not disclosed, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said they “look forward to identifying opportunities to work with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

While many speculated about her return to a galaxy far, far away, Carano revealed that she had already spoken to new Lucasfilm co-CEO Dave Filoni and showrunner Jon Favreau.
“I already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. We had a Zoom call. It was really nice,” she said during an interview with Ariel Helwani. “Dave takes over as CEO of Star Wars. We didn’t miss a thing. Jon Favreau got on Zoom and was really funny. He was like; where did we leave off?”
Although fans have mixed reactions regarding Cara Dune’s return, it remains to be seen whether she will reprise her role.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano opened up about the conversation with Filoni and Favreau and what it really meant for her future on “Star Wars.”
“I think it was ‘Let’s touch the bases,'” Carano said. “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were two people that I always respected, and we went through two seasons together, and we had a great relationship. And even through everything that was going on, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau were never bad guys to me.”
Asked if that meant she was preparing for a comeback, Carano said, “I won’t divulge any of that, but I will say that, for me, it was an important conversation. Zooming, seeing each other, fixing anything, making sure everyone was OK. And everyone was OK.”
Carano says Favreau is a ‘good man’
Although she won’t be in “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which hits theaters May 22, Carano said she hopes the film does well at the box office.
“Jon Favreau directed it and he’s a good man,” she said. “He’s a great storyteller. He’s an incredible artist. And I would really like to see all this hustle and bustle within the Star Wars The fandom is sort of coming to an end. It’s like it’s a never-ending war.
She also addressed the current state of “Star Wars” fandom, saying there were “two extremist camps” and one “really tried to get me canceled and succeeded.”
Gina Carano Reveals Current Relationship Status With Pedro Pascal
Although Pascal remained largely silent when she was fired from Lucasfilm, rumors swirled that he tried to convince her to appease her detractors before she was officially fired.
When asked where their relationship stands at present, she revealed that they haven’t spoken since co-starring. Carl Weathers died in February 2024. “Pedro and I don’t stay in touch,” she said.
She also spoke about her relationship with Kathleen Kennedywho stepped down as president of Lucasfilm earlier this year. “I wish him the best,” she said.
Regarding his settlement with Disney and whether that means a return to a galaxy far, far away, Carano said: “I’m not in a position to talk about the specifics of the settlement. I’m not in a position to talk about anything about that.”
