Two years later since the Oura Ring 4Finnish health technology company Oura is back with a new smart ring— right in time to compete with the other screenless fitness tracker of the moment, the FitbitAir. The Oura Ring 5 doubles down on the company’s minimalist philosophy with a smaller ring design, improved durability and, unsurprisingly, a suite of AI-powered wellness features.
The Ring 5 is available for pre-order today and begins shipping on June 4. It starts at $399 in silver and black, while the premium finishes (Stealth, Brushed Silver, an updated gold, and a new Deep Rose color) cost $499. Oura’s subscription price remains the same at $6 per month or $70 per year. The charging case is also available for pre-order in select markets. The ring, charging case, and Oura membership are all eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement in the United States.
Small ring, big ambitions

At 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick, Oura’s latest Ring is 40% smaller than the Ring 4, which the company says makes it the smallest in the world. smart ring. The titanium exterior is now coated with a new physical vapor deposition (PVD) to improve scratch resistance, and the ring itself is dust and waterproof to 100 meters with a IP68 rating.
The reduction in the Oura Ring did not come at the expense of performance. Oura claims that the Ring 5 is more precise than its predecessor, thanks to LEDs that are four times more powerful and redesigned sensors positioned closer to the skin for better signal detection. The ring is said to integrate 12 independent signal paths to fine-tune precision across a range of finger shapes and skin tones. Battery life is also slightly increased, with Oura claiming between six and nine days per charge, compared to five to eight days for the Ring 4.

Oura is also launching a new portable charging case ($99), which can add an extra month of battery life, or about five full charges. The case has a button to check its charging status and pairing. It’s also compatible with the new location feature rolling out to Gen 2 and newer devices, allowing users to track misplaced rings and charging cases through the Oura app.
Councilor Oura
The most notable changes come on the software side. Oura is positioning the Ring 5 as a proactive health platform, just as Google is positioning its AI health coach in the center of redesigned Google Health app.
At the heart of this change is Advisor Ourathe company powered by a large language model assistant who debuted last year, and that of Oura proprietary AI model for women’s health. The company partners with Health advice to integrate AI-assisted health advice with access to licensed doctors through Oura Advisor. Through the integration, you can ask health questions, receive personalized advice, and connect with healthcare professionals from within the app.
Fitness Tracker is currently undergoing an overhaul. A new Live Activity mode lets users start workouts from within the app and view real-time heart rate, pace and distance via lock screen widgets, so you don’t even need to unlock your phone mid-session. For activities where a smart ring might be uncomfortable, like powerlifting, the app now supports third-party apps. heart rate monitors and select devices, so you can continue capturing live workout data without wearing the ring itself. Oura also claims that its updated automatic activity detection is significantly more accurate than previous generations, especially for low-motion exercises like Pilates.

Then there are Oura’s ambitions in terms of preventive health: Health Radar, which is based on Symptom Radar feature introduced in 2024. Health Radar continuously analyzes biometric patterns in the background to flag subtle changes before they become more obvious problems. At launch, Health Radar centers around two new features: blood pressure signals and nighttime breathing.
Blood Pressure Signals continuously analyzes biometric trends that may correlate with cardiovascular pressure. A new Nighttime Blood Pressure feature monitors whether blood pressure drops appropriately during sleep. Oura says this measurement can reveal cardiovascular risks that daytime readings may miss. You can also add cuff readings to provide additional context.
Meanwhile, Nighttime Breathing provides a rolling 30-day view of breathing disorders during sleep to identify changes that could affect sleep quality or signal underlying issues. Earlier this month, Oura announced a partnership with Resmed which provides users with elevated nighttime respiratory alerts access to sleep health resources, comprehensive sleep assessments, and the ability to connect with independent healthcare providers for potential diagnosis and treatment.
Metabolic health is another growing goal. Oura introduces GLP-1 medication self-management tools that allow users to record and track dosing schedules, side effects and weight changes. Oura is also expanding its Health Panels functionality with Lab Uploads, so you can import blood test results and compare biomarkers over time. In the United States, subscribers can connect eligible providers to import diagnosed conditions, medications, and lab results into a personal health record in the app.

The new launch places greater emphasis on privacy controlsaccording to Oura. A new time-based data deletion feature allows users (of all Oura generations) to erase data from specific time periods without erasing their long-term history. Members also benefit from more granular monitoring with configurable controls over how their data is used and shared with third parties.
The Ring 5 is available in sizes 6 through 13, and Oura recommends that all consumers, including existing members, use the company’s updated sizing kit before ordering, as the smaller model may fit differently than previous generations. Also new is multi-ring support, allowing users to pair and switch between multiple Ring 4 and Ring 5 devices on a single account at no additional cost.
