Panic buying isn’t something I often recommend, but too many Prime Day sales have gone by without me making up my mind before the clock strikes midnight. Not this year; now I’m making big girl decisions…after texting my partner for a mental health check, of course.
When I reviewed the Echo Dot Max, I wasn’t 100% sold on the speaker at its list price. At $99/£99, it’s not quite enough in the audio department, and while goodies like Alexa+ compatibility (as well as early access) and a new design language are nice, they still aren’t selling points for most customers.

Two features that TO DO make all the difference, however, they require having more than one speaker. Right now it’s a lot cheaper, as the Echo Dot Max costs $64.99 (was $99.99) on Amazon US and £59.99 (was £99.99) in the UK.
The first of these features is my main motivation: setting up a stereo pair, which greatly improves the audio quality and really shows off the speaker’s capabilities. I heard two Echo Dot Max speakers in this configuration for the first time a few weeks after writing my review, and for me, it’s the de facto way to enjoy Amazon’s latest Echo Dot.
The second is Amazon Home Theater, which lets you connect up to five Echo Dot Max or Echo Studio speakers plus an optional Echo subwoofer to Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd generation), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd generation), or Fire TV Cube (3rd generation). This is not a key factor for me; I have a compatible Fire TV Stick, but I also already have some pretty nifty speakers.

I’m really happy with myself for this decision; and to top it all off, my new speaker is Glacier White rather than the slightly garish Amethyst (read: bright purple) colorway I had before. I’m hoping that when they’re in the same room they’ll be a bit of a yin and yang, but if not… I guess I’ll get a third one for Black Friday!
Also think…
Still not 100% sold? That’s right; Even at its record sale price, it’s not as cheap as Amazon’s alternatives, and you may want more from your smart assistant, like an even fuller screen or sound.
Either way, I’ve created a quiz below that will match you with your perfect Amazon Echo speaker, so be sure to use that as a guideline. Act quickly before the sales end!
