President Donald Trump is in “excellent health”, White House a doctor said Friday in a memo released by the administration after Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center — his third in-person medical exam in 13 months.
“He is fully suited to fulfill all the duties of Commander in Chief,” Dr. Sean Barbabella, physician to the president, wrote in the memo.
The memo said Trump underwent a series of exams, including testing heart function, eye health and lung function. The results were largely normal, with Barbabella noting “mild swelling of the lower leg” and bruising on the hand “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshakes in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.”
The memo came out three days ago after his exam on Tuesday.
Barbabella reported that Trump’s weight was 238 pounds with a resting heart rate of 73 beats per minute. Trump also had a neurological exam including a cognitive function screen, which was within normal limits with a score of 30 out of 30, Barbabella claims.
Trump takes medication to control cholesterol and prevent heart problems, Barbabella said.
“The president is staying current on all appropriate preventive screenings and vaccinations,” Barbabella said. “Routine cancer screenings, cardiovascular risk assessment, and metabolic assessments are current and within recommended intervals. Preventative counseling has been provided, including advice on diet, recommendation to take a low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity, and continued weight loss.”
Trump visited Walter Reed twice last year – in April and October – and has had two dental appointments in Florida this year: one in January and one in May.
Trump, who turns 80 in June, is the oldest person to serve as president. He regularly insists that he is in excellent health, most recently Tuesday after visiting Walter Reed in Bethesda, Maryland.
“I just completed my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything went perfectly. Thank you to the excellent doctors and staff!” Asset published on Truth Social.
He also regularly claims to have passed cognitive exams.

Yet speculation about Trump’s health has been fueled by moments of apparent sleepiness and a visibly bruised right hand. The White House blamed the bruising on Trump’s frequent handshakes and said he took aspirin to thin the blood. more than recommended by his doctors.
Last year, the White House revealed that Trump had chronic venous insufficiencya non-life-threatening illness that causes poor circulation and leads to swelling in the legs.
In October, following his visit to Walter Reed, which the White House had described as a “routine annual check-up” Although it was his second visit in six months, Trump revealed to reporters that he had had an MRI. Her doctor later clarified that the test consisted of a CT scan of her heart and abdomen “to definitively rule out any cardiovascular problems.”
Barbabella said Trump had the scan “to make the most of his hospital stay” and that his doctors asked Trump if he would undergo advanced imaging.
“As we revealed in the post-examination report, advanced imaging was perfectly normal and revealed absolutely no abnormalities,” Barbabella said in a statement to NBC News at the time.
Barbabella adopted a similar tone during Trump visit in April 2025saying he “remains in excellent health, exhibiting strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function.”
