For Bond fans, these were difficult years. Until this month, the latest Bond release was No time to die in 2021 – too long to be without everyone’s favorite sexist and misogynistic dinosaur. But now, finally, there’s a new Bond to jump into…at least for gamers.
Just a few days ago, 007 First Light was finally released for sale on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S (a Switch 2 version is expected later this year). This third-person shooter from IO Interactive is treated with the kind of fanfare usually reserved for cinema.
If you’re a Bond enthusiast, owning the game (the recipient of four brilliant TechRadar stars in our 007 First Light review) probably won’t be enough. You will want derivative products.
Below, I’ve rounded up the best options in the US and UK. I will say at the top that UK shoppers currently have a much wider pool of products to choose from. Aside from a range of uninspiring official T-shirts and a gold controller, US fans are limited to collector’s editions of the game. You can choose between the Legacy Edition (with a rather poorly priced gold gun figure and display stand) or the Collector’s Edition (with an unsettling life-size mask of First light Big Bad Damien Webb), as well as a handful of other physical collectibles and digital goodies with either bundle.
British Bond-ites also have the same special game editions to choose from, provided they’re not out of print. Plus, they can bypass official t-shirts as they have a range of premium 007-inspired clothing, courtesy of British menswear brand Orlebar Brown. You’ll need slightly deeper pockets though, as you can buy 11 First light official T-shirts for the price of a short-sleeved terry cloth shirt or intimidatingly fitted swim shorts from Orlebar Brown.
If you’re a British fan with deeper pockets, perhaps you should just head over to Omega and pick up a gaming-themed Seamaster dive watch, which bucks the merchandise trend by being both subtle and stylish. If you’re feeling less flushed, there’s always the special edition rum.
