CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg admitted Friday that the company had “made mistakes” as it underwent a radical overhaul of its workforce linked to its aggressive push toward artificial intelligence (AI).
Zuckerberg made the remarks in an internal memo to employees, according to Reuters, who reported that the Meta chief warned of the challenges associated with the rapid development of AI technology.
Meta has invested billions of dollars in AI infrastructure and tools as it competes with OpenAI, Google and Microsoft for emerging technology dominance.
The company has also explored ways to use AI agents to perform tasks currently performed by employees.

“Given the complexity of these changes, we have made mistakes and will almost certainly make more,” Zuckerberg said.
He added that he “strives to provide as much stability as possible” as the company continues to reshape its workforce.
“I don’t want to overpromise because the world is evolving in ways that are beyond our control,” Zuckerberg said.

He also reiterated that Meta does not expect any further company-wide layoffs this year.
The comments come after Meta laid off about 10% of its employees. global workforce in May and reassigned about 7,000 employees to AI-focused initiatives.

“By creating important new roles for people, it also allowed us to reduce the size of teams, knowing that if we made mistakes in certain places, then we could transfer some people,” Zuckerberg said.

According to Reuters, the restructuring – combined with previous transfers and job cuts – is expected to ultimately affect around 20% of Meta’s workforce.
Meta employed nearly 78,000 people at the end of March, according to company filings.
