The Dyson vacuum cleaner range had a new look planned for this year. Some vacuum cleaners have already arrived, like the Dyson PencilVac And Dyson Spot+Scrub robot vacuum cleanerbut others we were still waiting to see. That wait is over this month, as Dyson finally dropped the rest of its anticipated models.
Dyson now has three new cordless vacuums you can buy, plus one with an underwater head variant: the Dyson V16 Piston Animal ($980) And Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine ($1,100)THE Dyson V10 Conical ($500)and the Dyson V8 Cyclone ($400). In addition to the other vacuum cleaners launched by the brand this year, the Dyson range is larger than ever.
Here’s what’s different about each of the new models, what’s still to come, and whether or not it’s time to start shopping for one new Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Dyson calls the Piston Animal V16 ($980) its most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner yet. It has 315 air-watts of suction power and a new 900-watt Dyson Hyperdymium motor. There’s a new cleaning head, the All Floor Cones Sense, with conical brush bars that look a bit like the PencilVac Fluffycones, with a similar design and color scheme. The All Floor Cones Sense head also promises to detect changes in floor type and respond automatically (hence the “Sense”). It also still comes with the Fluffy Optic hard floor cleaner head, as seen in the V15 detection and Gen5 detection.
The V16 Piston Animal also features a debris bin that can compress dust and debris, allowing it to hold for up to 30 days. It also now has a dump mechanism that allows you to expel debris, making emptying easier. Dyson has promised a self-draining dock for this model, but it’s not yet available; Dyson says it will be available for purchase in the future.
There is also a Underwater variant sold for $1,100. This version adds a wet roller head similar to the V15 Detect Submarine, but Dyson says this version has new hydration control technology for more targeted use of water while cleaning and a boost mode when dealing with stains.

THE Dyson V10 Conical ($500) is Dyson’s first auto-empty vacuum, but the massive dock you’ll sometimes see it pictured with—the Auto-Empty Dok, which will cost $150—won’t be available for purchase until August.
The Konical is otherwise a cheaper option with its lower wattage of 150 air-watts and only the new All Floor Cones cleaner head. It’s not the same Sense cleaner head that you’ll get on the more expensive V16 Piston Animal, nor does it come with the Fluffy Optic head. It still comes with two other accessories, but it’s a fairly minimalist set of options compared to other Dyson models. It has a battery life of 60 minutes and HEPA filtration.
Dyson V8 Cyclone

The cheapest of Dyson’s new vacuum cleaners is a revamp of an old favorite. The update Dyson V8 Cyclone ($400) promises 30% more suction power and a full hour of runtime compared to the old Dyson V8. It also has 150 air-watts of power like the Konical V10 above and switches to a button to turn it on and off instead of a trigger you have to hold down.
You’ll get even fewer accessories with this one, and no new cleaner head; it has the old Motorbar Cleaner head like the V15 Detectand comes only with a crevice tool. Still, if you want something affordable without being outdated, this is a great price for a Dyson vacuum. It will also be compatible with the same self-draining Dok as the V10, which will be available in August for $150.
Is it time to buy?
With Amazon Prime Day is fast approaching and these new vacuum cleaners available, I also expect better sales on old Dyson vacuum cleaners like the Gen5detect and the V15 Detect. It’s up to you whether you want to pick up an older model for a better sale price or whether you want to splurge on a new model. You can also wait to see if these new models go on sale this month, but the chances are low; they will likely be on sale for this fall’s sales events.
