Gemini users on MacOS are getting new voice features, Google announced Wednesday. The app launched earlier this year and the tech giant has been constantly adding new features since its launch. The latest version will give you new ways to interact with Gemini using just your voice and a new screen recognition mode.
The Gemini app for MacOS is pretty feature-rich considering it’s only a few months old, and Google continues to build out features with the latest version. The Pro and Ultra models have access to Gemini Spark, which can clean out your folders or rearrange things on its own. You can also use them to create images or videos with just a few clicks.
One of the two new features in this release is Smart Dictation, which will transcribe words into neat text wherever your mouse cursor is and automatically remove your “ums” and “ahs.” The feature is no different from what we saw with Android 17’s Rambler feature, which will automatically clean up text on the fly as you speak. Text dictation isn’t new at this point, but there’s now a Gemini AI-based option that could make it more useful than ever.
The other new feature rolling out is a new Screen Awareness mode. This membership feature will allow Gemini to better understand what you’re working on by “seeing” what’s on your screen and active windows on your computer, so it can perform tasks on your behalf. Google gives the example of highlighting text in a document and telling Gemini: “Turn these notes into a summary.” Gemini will then replace the highlighted text with the requested result.
The new voice features are rolling out globally to all Gemini app users in English, with additional languages becoming available later this year.
