Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 raises new questions about Godzilla and Kong’s shared history in Monstervere. The Monsterverse iterations of the two pop culture icons met for the first time in 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong. After two heated battles, the two put aside their differences due to the emergence of Mechagodzilla.
They came together again to Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdomwhere they engaged in a rematch. Eventually, they teamed up again, this time to defeat the combined forces of Shimo and King Skar. Presumably they will be on the same side a third time when SpaceGodzilla will appear in 2027 Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
Before that day comes, they will be together in a different project, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. Paying Kong’s cameo in the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1 finalethe series will put more emphasis on Kong in a story that will focus on a new threat known as Titan X. And based on the marketing, Godzilla will still be a big part of the series’ narrative.
Will Godzilla and Kong meet in Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2?
The apparent relevance of both Titans in Season 2 has created understandable confusion over how they will be used, given their placement in the Monsterverse timeline. The end of season 1 placed the main characters in 2017, seven years before Godzilla and Kong’s first fight.
Godzilla vs. Kong It was thought to be the first time the two Titans had looked at each other. But with Monarch season 2 story clearly being the one that’s going to heavily integrate Godzilla and Kong, it’s worth wondering how it will approach their story without violating Monsterverse canon.
How Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Can Avoid Breaking Monsterverse Canon
Telling a story that takes place before their first known meeting can be a challenge, but it’s not unachievable. In Godzilla vs. Kongit was established that Godzilla knew of Kong’s existence and whereabouts. As for Kong, there was no on-screen confirmation that he knew Godzilla. Because of this, it is technically possible for them to share the screen, but it is unclear how this could happen without a fight breaking out.
A more realistic scenario is this Monarch: Legacy of Monsters finds a way to keep them on separate trajectoriesalthough both end up being drawn into the Titan have some of his characters on Skull Island and others closer to Godzilla’s location.
If this were to happen, it would likely lead to the final battle of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 only including one of the flagship Titans of the Monsterverse while the other is unfortunately sidelined. While disappointing, this would effectively allow the Apple TV series to preserve the Monsterverse canon.
