The reason the 1017 Alyx 9SM Fall 2023 show was a permanent affair became apparent as the fashion pack crowded the Spazio Maiocchi art gallery in Milan: a raised walkway had been installed in front of paintings by Mark Flood, which inspired designer Matthew William's collection, sometimes quite literally.
In a career spanning more than four decades, the Houston-based artist was prescient in its use of memes and fictional corporate logos, which looked damn cool spelled out on considered streetwear ply brand Williams, this season a little grittier, grungier and less harsh than usual. The clothes were accessible, distinctive and sneakily cool.
There is no doubt that Williams had fun getting closer to the smudged, smudged and afflicted with Flood artwork on clothing, from gorgeous distressed-looking leather jackets cut just right, to jeans with frothy bumps that echo Flood's intricate lace paintings. p>
"I love the [fabric] treatments and aging products," the designer said after the parade. “I think it gives a lot of soul to the clothes. It's part of the DNA of my work, so I always experience that, those happy accidents that you get in the process. »
The designer also demonstrated a great sense of proportion, giving the warm-up jackets and to the nylon parkas of muscular shoulders and extra length, while his white leather jacket stopped just past the waistband. The tuxedo jackets and coats, with the satin lapels encrusted and jagged on the edge, were the height of dystopian chic.
Eye-catching accessories included single-strap hanging mini backpacks carrying one of the buckles of towering brand roller coaster; leather caps pierced with a bunny-shaped dangling earring and slouchy mid-height boots, seen earlier today at Gucci, here with a chunky industrial sole.
Williams also teased its women's fall collection, and it looks promising according to the big curly coat with the tip - studded leather elbow patches; the sequined silver shorts and a fierce black jersey dress hanging from a pointed collar.
