Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino on limiting the tweets users can read: "You need to take big steps to keep the platform strong"

CEO Linda Yaccarino fully agrees with Elon Musk's decision to limit tweets that users can view on a daily basis.

"When you have a mission like Twitter, you have to take big steps to continue to strengthen the platform This work is meaningful and ongoing,” Yaccarino tweeted with an official statement from the social network.

Twitter issued a statement telling users they would be restricted on the digital platform in an effort to fight robots and spams.

"To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform,” reads the statement.

Twitter users were surprised when the social network went glitchy over the weekend. The issues were ongoing with little explanation of what was going on. According to Twitter's statement, the company did not notify its users beforehand because "any prior notification of these actions would have allowed malicious actors to modify their behavior to evade detection".

The purpose of rate limits is to prevent bots from "scraping public Twitter data from users to create AI models" and stop "manipulating people and conversation on the platform".

"Currently the restrictions affect a small percentage of people using the platform, and we will provide an update day when the work is complete. As far as our customers are concerned, the effect on publicity has been minimal," the statement said. "While this work is never finished, we are all deeply committed to making Twitter a better place. for everyone. Sometimes, even for a brief moment, you have to slow down to speed up. We appreciate your patience."

Initial limits on Twitter forced verified users to read 6,000 posts per day, unverified users to 600 posts per day and new unverified accounts could only read 300 posts per day. At the end of the day, Musk reported that the limits had been increased to 10,000 messages for verified users, 1,000 for unverified users, and 500 for new accounts.

Twitter's statement also comes as Meta prepares to launch a direct competitor called Threads which will be published on July 6.
