12-year-old student wins Heirs Life Essay Championship

A 12-year-old student from Gateway Schools, Enugu, Ugbomyke Princewill Ebubechukwu emerged as the winner of the first edition of the Heirs Life Essay Championship.

The national competition was organized by Heirs Life Assurance (HLA), a specialist life insurance company offering simple, fast, accessible and reliable life insurance, retirement and education protection plans children, with more than a thousand students submitting nominations from across the country.

As the overall winner, Princewill received a brand new laptop, the first place prize, and his school, Gateway Schools, represented by owner Dr. Loveline Ndu, received the Heirs Life Essay Championship Cup and worth N500,000 books and other educational materials at the award ceremony held in Enugu, Enugu State on Friday 19th August 2022.

Participating students were tasked with submitting a 500-word essay on the topic: "If I Were the President of Nigeria".

The more than 1,000 applications received were scored by a team of experts under the guidance of an eminent English professor, followed by a screening interview for better quality assurance.

Other winners include Purity Chukwudi Chetachi, a Basic 5 student from Star of Hope School in Lagos, who came out first runner-up and won a cash prize of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000), and Abidoye Habeeb, a JSS 2 student from Mivara Secondary School, Lagos, who won third place with a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000).

According to Niyi Onifade, CEO of Heirs Life Assurance Limited, the Essay Championship showcases the highly intellectual young future leaders of our country.
