While many automakers have faced recalls this year, Ford Motor Co. F. has taken the lead with the most recalls, affecting a significant number of vehicles.

What happened: According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data, Ford issued 31 vehicle recalls in 2023, affecting more than 4.1 million vehicles. Close behind Stellantis NV STLA, formerly Chrysler, with 26 recalls affecting 1.7 million vehicles.

Ford's recalls covered a variety of issues, including recoil prevention, airbags, powertrain and hydraulic service brakes. For Stellantis/Chrysler, most recalls were related to the electrical system or powertrain.
