2022: Group advises Governor Emmanuel against giving Eket Stadium to YPP for campaign flag

Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance has urged Governor Udom Emmanuel not to honor the request of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, to use Eket Sports Stadium to mark their political rally.

The group, in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr Stephen Abia on Monday, said that if the state government was serious about preserving its legacy and avoiding vandalism of the facility, it should not attempt to entrust the installation to the party.

The statement says the group decided to be proactive in advising the Governor of the repercussions as they knew that he (the Governor) being a leader of good heart and fairness to all, would not hesitate to grant such endorsement regardless of party. divides.

"It is in this context that we humbly implore the Governor never to consider approving the use of the state-of-the-art Eket Sports Stadium by the Youth Party under the guise of a political rally.< /p>

"Maybe this is just an opportunity they've been waiting for to strike and score a political point.

"This should never happen. The young opposition party with an old trick, YPP, is determined to destroy Governor Udom Emmanuel's cynosure achievements.

"They particularly made the Eket Sports Stadium a major subject of their negative campaign, where they did not believe construction was underway, and will eventually be inaugurated," reads in part in the press release.

However, Chief Usoro Usoro, director of communications for the campaign organization of YPP gubernatorial candidate Senator Bassey Akpan, said the statement was not surprising as it was released by the Akwa Ibom Integrity group, which is a pro-government group.

"The truth is that they (the government) denied the YPP and Senator Bassey Akpan access to all public places in Akwa Ibom State. For example, we requested to use Ibom Hall , we were refused, we asked to use the Ikot Ekpene stadium, we were also refused.

“As I speak to you, Onna Apostolic Church has just had a pastor suspended for hosting YPP, so we face severe persecution, but we are not deterred.”
