2023: APC surrenders to governors and cancels inauguration of campaign council

In an effort to appease aggrieved governors, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has suspended the inauguration of its 422-man campaign council, set earlier for Wednesday.

Plateau State Governor and Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday morning.

A party source told Tribune Online that the decision was made to appease aggrieved governors whose candidates were not on the list released over the weekend.

"The APC Presidential Campaign Council understood that some of them were threatening to stay away from Wednesday's event to openly show their displeasure," the source revealed.

Bayo Onanuga, director of media and publicity, assured the governors on Monday that their candidates would eventually make the list.

“The council also assures our esteemed governors that the council secretariat has not abandoned the names they submitted,” he said.

In Tuesday's statement, the Governor of Plateau State said Wednesday's inauguration was canceled "due to the expansion of the roster to accommodate more stakeholders and interests within of the APC family, we have decided to adjust the timing of these activities to ensure that everyone is on board before the official start of the activities. Therefore, the activities previously announced for September 28 will no longer be held. . »

The statement reads in part: "Recall that we previously planned a peace march and prayers on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, to officially launch our campaigns for the 2023 presidential elections. We also announced that members of the Campaign Council would travel to campaign headquarters that day to collect their letters of appointment.

“However, due to the expansion of the roster to accommodate more stakeholders and interests within the APC family, we have decided to adjust the timing of these activities to ensure that everyone everyone is on board before the official start of activities, therefore the activities previously announced for September 28 will no longer take place.

“As the ruling and most attractive party in Nigeria, we understand the sacrifices and understanding of our many members who are more than willing to volunteer for this great task ahead. It also shows the enormous love party members have for our candidates

"A new date and schedule of events will be announced soon."
