He noted that 2023 will be special and important for Kogi State as unlike other states in the federation, Kogi would have two major elections at different times in 2023. The offseason gubernatorial ballot will also be held in the state later next year.

While noting that the results of the two elections will influence each other, he added that the situation and context created in the run-up to the February/March general elections will match and set the standard for the November gubernatorial election.< /p>

“It is for these reasons that our politicians must avoid creating tensions within the state and ensure that they conduct themselves peacefully. We do not want the legislative elections to plunge the state into crisis or create tensions that will continue until November, when the election of governors will take place.

"Our people have been going through different hardships lately. Apart from the general economic crisis that has impoverished the people and lowered their standard of living, the recent catastrophic flood that has ravaged our state has further made living conditions very difficult. .

“Farmers, poultry farmers, fishers, traders, civil servants, professionals and others have been victims of various harsh conditions. Politicians should refrain from aggravating the problems facing the people by unleashing political violence or spreading panic.

"Politicians should devote more resources to issues of poverty reduction, youth empowerment, social protection, provision of social services and helping the people to rise from the ashes of the current economic crisis This is why we all need to make sure our politicians engage people and talk more about how to solve problems.

"Everyone in Kogi, no matter where you are from or what language you speak or how much you worship God, we are all brothers and sisters. Our concern should be how to positively rewrite the history of our state and make it realize its potential as a great state endowed with enormous human and material resources.

"Politics 2023 should focus on problem solving, foresight and sustainability. Anything less than this does a disservice to our people. I plead with all my brothers and sisters who are candidates in the upcoming elections, or supporters, sponsors or sympathizers of any political party or candidate to ensure that we work for peace, unity and development,” Braimoh said.
