2023: The Council of Elders convenes all candidates for the post of governor in Akwa Ibom
In an attempt to ensure that the best candidate will emerge in the 2023 gubernatorial election, an organization in Akwa Ibom State, under the aegis of the Akwa State Council of Elders Ibom, called a meeting with all the gubernatorial candidates from the various political parties in the state.
The meeting to be held on Wednesday January 4, 2023 at the Ibom E-Library was to hear from all the candidates what they have in store for the people.
In a statement signed by the Council's Protem Secretary, Chief Moses Essien and made available to reporters in Uyo on Monday, said the meeting would take place as an interactive session with the candidates and would be the first of its kind.
The statement encouraged all eligible members and candidates to attend.
The statement reads: "Gubernatorial candidates from all political parties for the upcoming general elections in Akwa Ibom State are invited to meet with the Pan Akwa Ibom organization, the Council of Elders of Akwa Ibom State.
“The meeting will be conducted as an interactive session with the candidates and is scheduled to be held at the main auditorium of the Ibom Electronic Library on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. and will be the first major activity of the Council in 2023."
The Council of Elders is chaired by former governor, Obong Victor Attah and is composed of all former governors and their deputies, all former ministers, senators, ambassadors, government secretaries, vice-chancellors, chief justices retired and retired judges of state, federal, appeals and supreme courts.
Other board members are former commissioners who have left office within the last 20 years, all retired military officers who are not below the rank of colonel in the military and their equivalent in the Navy and Air Force and all retired police officers who are not below the rank of Commissioners and their equivalent in DSS, Customs, Immigration and Civil Protection .
