2023: Despite my support for Wike, I will work for Atiku – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has said that despite his doubts about the current situation in the People's Democratic Party, he will not defect to the Congress of All Progressives .

Mr. Fayose also reaffirmed his support for Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in his row with PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

The former governor was addressing senior party members in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

The PDP leadership had made efforts to secure the support of the governor of Rivers State for the party's presidential candidate.

Mr. Wike has been indifferent to party activities since losing the presidential ticket to Mr. Atiku and was also not considered for the post of vice president.

The governors of Lagos and Ekiti states, Babajide Sanwo-olu and Kayode Fayemi, together with Mr. Fayose, traveled to Rivers state, apparently to court the governor with the APC.

Although there were rumors that Mr. Wike was planning to get rid of the PDP before the 2023 presidential election, the governor came out to deny it.

However, Mr. Fayose said on Monday that despite his support for the Governor of Rivers State, he will work for Mr. Atiku in the next election.

“A lot has been said, but as I have said many times, let me state it here expressly that I will never join APC for any reason,” he said .

"In all the problems we face as a party, no one said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is not our presidential candidate. Nor has anyone said that Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is not was not our party's running mate.

"In addition, we have candidates here for the Senate, the House of Representatives and the House of Assembly. Among them is my biological son, Joju, and others who are my political sons and daughters. My interest is that all these candidates win the elections.

“Therefore, I call on those who are angry to stop being angry. Those who are fighting must stop fighting. Let us face the 2023 elections together and win the first. the fight."

The PDP candidate in the last Ekiti gubernatorial elections, Bisi Kolawole, used the meeting to thank party members for supporting him during the election.

"Even though we lost, I am still grateful to the party for this opportunity and wish to urge all party stakeholders to close ranks so that together we will rise again," he said.

Acting State Chairman Lanre Omolase, who spoke on behalf of the members of the state working committee, affirmed their confidence in the leadership of Mr. Fayose, saying that those plotting against him should sheathe their swords in the interest of the party's candidates running for election next year.

Others who spoke at the meeting were former acting governor, Tunji Odeyemi; Secretary of the Council of Elders, Idowu Odeyemi; leader of the PDP in Ado Ekiti, Lamidi Alaketu; Lateef Ajijola, who spoke for the National Assembly candidates; Anjorin Olarewaju, who spoke on behalf of the House of Assembly candidates; Olufemi Babatunde, who spoke on behalf of the presidents of the local government parties and Bukola Oyewusi.

Others present at the meeting Lateef Ajijola and Funso Ayeni, senatorial candidates for Ekiti Central and North respectively as well as Lere Olayinka, Yinka Akerele, Joju Fayose and Adenike Jennifer, candidates for the House of Representatives for Ekiti Central 2, Ekiti North 1 , Ekiti Central 2 and Ekiti South 2.

Also present at the meeting were 10 of the 16 local government party presidents and more than 150 ward presidents among other party members.
