2023: Peter Obi's endorsement divides Northern Christians

Some prominent northern Christian leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have distanced themselves with the endorsement of Labor Party, LP, presidential candidate Peter Obi by former Federation Government Secretary, SGF , Babahir Lawal.

The group led by a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said APC members in the north had never made any decision to endorse Obi.

The group noted that the decision to endorse Obi was Lawal's.

A few days ago, Lawal had revealed that the group, after much consultation, had opted for the presidential candidate of the LP.

The group has sworn not to support the APC because of its Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

They lamented that APC should have chosen a Christian presidential running mate from the North and not a Muslim.

However, a statement jointly signed by Dogara, Simon Achuba, Albert Atiwurcha, Prof. Doknan Sheni, Mela Nunge (SAN), General Ishaya Bauka (rtd), Prof. Ibrahim Haruna and Ms. Leah Olusiyi, rejected the approval.< /p>

They said the group has yet to release its decision on who to approve in 2023.

"We wish to draw the attention of the general public to the position recently defended by our president, B.D Lawal, as the position of our group.

“We would like to state that the necessary consultations have been concluded, and on the basis of manifestly unassailable empirical evidence, the group is on the verge of adopting a position which will be made known to the public at an event. interreligious which will be held very soon.< /p>

"Suffice it to say that no one in the group, including the president, has been mandated to speak to the public about our position at this time. Based on our modus operandi, our position had to be presented to the general public at the aforementioned event. That hasn't changed," the band said.
