2023: Support for Atiku in Oyo excites PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hailed the commitment and courage of the people of Oyo State for their support of their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and all other party candidates in the 2023 general elections.

The party said so in a statement released Friday by its national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja.

Some PDP members marched in support of Atiku in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday.

However, the following day, State Governor Seyi Makinde, a PDP member, launched his re-election campaign in Ibadan, in the absence of party leaders including Atiku and National President Iyorchia Ayu.< /p>

Mr. Makinde is a member of the group of five governors demanding the resignation of Mr. Ayu as a condition for supporting Atiku.

The others are Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

Some party members were heard shouting for Atiku during the G-5 Governors rally.

In the statement, Ologunagba said the party commended the tenacity of PDP members and supporters in Oyo State for expressing their support for Atiku during the launch of the PDP government's campaign in Oyo State on Thursday, in defiance of attempts to dictate their electoral preference.

Atiku-Okowa AD

"The crushing chant of "Atiku!" Atiku!" by the resilient crowd in rejecting a demand that they follow the dictates of certain individuals in the presidential election, summarily conveyed with one voice their non-negotiable resolution to vote Atiku as the next president of our country.

“The people of Oyo State, as independent and politically savvy, have once again demonstrated their moniker as pioneers in Nigerian politics, establishing that power lies in the will of the people and not in the approval or dictates of any person or group of people.

"Unambiguously, the expression of the people of Oyo State at the launch event strongly indicates and reaffirms the support of the South West Geopolitical Zone for Atiku Abubakar and all our candidates in the southwest and across the country. ."

PDP spokespersons advised those who sought to dictate to Nigerians their electoral preferences to backtrack.

He said that all Nigerians found in Atiku the required integrity, kindred experience, ability, ability, quick-wittedness, presence of mind, pan-Nigerian disposition and willpower to unite and lead the nation at this critical time.< /p>

“Our party therefore instructs the people of Oyo State, the South West Zone and all Nigerians to stand firm in their resolve by turning out in droves to vote and to take all available action in a democracy to protect their votes.
