2023: We are preparing for a possible second round of the presidential election – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it is preparing to organize a second round for the presidential election.

This will be done if no candidate qualifies to be declared the winner after the February 25 ballot.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Information and Education Committee, Festus Okoye hinted as much during a meeting with media bureau chiefs/editors on Friday in Abuja.

Okoye noted that this is INEC's tradition for all elections held since 1999.

"18 candidates will be on the ballot for the first election.

"The Constitution has made it clear that two candidates will be on the ballot: one of the candidates with the most votes in the election, the one with the most votes in the of the election.< /p>

“The second candidate to be on the ballot will be one of the remaining candidates who obtains the majority of votes in the most states,” Okoye explained.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (All Progressive Congress, APC), Peter Obi (Labour Party, LP) and Atiku Abubakar (People's Democratic Party, PDP) are widely seen as the favorites for next year's elections.
