2023: We will not accept dubious vote harvesting - PDP

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it will not accept any questionable vote harvesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.

The PDP has also tasked President Muhammadu Buhari with keeping his promise to ensure that the 2023 elections are free, fair, transparent and credible.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who gave the warning in Abuja on Friday when he commanded the party's People's Democratic Institute (PDI), also warned the presidency and the APC not to intimidate INEC or its officials in any way.< /p>

On the importance of the institute, Ayu said that no society develops by fiat, adding, "It is the result of rigorous work of carefully studying situations and analyzing them before developing and to implement durable solutions. This is the idea that gave birth to the IDP on August 31, 2000."

The PDP National Chairman said that the PDI will be a think tank for the party for rigorous intellectual work in research, socio-economic analysis, policy development, training and capacity building of political actors, and strengthening our democratic institutions and culture.

Ayu said that unlike the APC, the PDP was not hastily designed as a propaganda machine just to gain power, saying that "it came to power with a mission".< /p>

He continued, "We understood that democracy is not a personal show, something to be managed on ad hoc arrangements; democracy is about mass participation, shared ideas and shared prosperity. .

The PDI is therefore the party's tool for generating ideas, researching them thoroughly and rigorously analyzing development options/policies for good governance and national development."

He added: "It is regrettable that after more than a decade of turbulent activities, the institute lost its accommodation in Wuse II and had to be relocated to a portable cabin at the national party headquarters. Today "Today, however, marks another turning point in the fortunes of our party. The deliberate actions of the current NWC have rekindled hopes for the survival of the institute. It is now comfortably housed in this rented structure, renovated, furnished and equipped for PDI to effectively reengage the vocation for which it was created.”

According to him, “The party is preparing adequately again and will be on track when, by the grace of God and the votes of Nigerians, the PDP returns to power next year.

“While others have no idea how, where and when to start their campaigns, the PDP is already preparing for governance. Our presidential candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, has already shown his intellectual preparation in his publications which are already in the public space for everyone to access and examine.

He further confessed that it was not "an accident of history" that he commissioned the institute when it was inaugurated in 2000 and is now re-commissioning it in preparation for the upcoming task from May 29, 2023.

“PDP will not waste six months in the presidential villa thinking about what to do with power. Although the party has a solid package to make Nigeria viable again, the Institute has been revamped and repositioned to provide research data that will help President Atiku unlock our national potential, secure the country, energize our productive sectors, drive wealth creation, empower youth and women, create jobs, revitalize the agriculture, stabilize the education sector and overall be an alert and effective commander-in-chief,” he said.

While emphasizing that the PDP remains focused on regaining power from the ruling APC next February, he stressed: "The party maintains that we will not accept questionable vote harvests in areas inaccessible as happened in previous elections under the APC".

He said: "We renew our call on the international community, in particular the United States, the European Union, the Commonwealth and the African Union, to maintain their interest in the democratic project. in Nigeria through diplomatic pressure, political contacts and significant, high-caliber observer missions.”
