480 suspected criminals arrested in Abuja in unfinished buildings

The FCT administration on Friday arrested 480 suspected criminals in unfinished buildings and undeveloped land in Maitama and Wuse II areas.

The commander in charge of the task force, Mr. Bennett Igweh, said the suspects, mostly men, had turned green spaces, undeveloped land and unoccupied houses into havens for the crime.

Igweh noted that the team would stop at nothing to rid the city of criminal elements threatening the peace of the FCT.

He added that the task force recovered police uniforms, cell phones, a loaded pistol, machetes and charms from the suspects.

"We have arrested approximately 480 suspected criminals. We will prosecute several of them.

"We will do extensive profiling as we suspect that some of them are escapees from Kuje Correctional Center.

"We are starting from the city center and we will expand the arrests to other neighborhoods.

He added that the exercise will cover 21 villages and satellite towns from Kabusa to Gishiri through Waru and Wasa and others in the FCT.
