The Abeokuta club management appealed to the Ogun State government to ensure the completion of infrastructure projects undertaken by the previous administration in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The club also sought special treatment for Abeokuta, which serves as the state capital in terms of infrastructure projects.

The club's president, Tokunbo Odebunmi, said this on Monday when answering questions from reporters during a press briefing to mark the club's 50th anniversary.

Odebunmi lamented that the state capital since its inception in 1976 suffered in terms of infrastructure deficit, until the administration of former Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun changed the situation with the massive construction of flyovers and bridges.

He said, "There must be a need for the governor to put infrastructure in the state capital, that's where all kinds of citizens are based.

"So the need for infrastructure is great; housing should never be inadequate in the state capital, water supply should not be insufficient, roads should be special attention".

"If roads are built in the three senate districts of Ogun State, those in Abeokuta will require urgent attention for maintenance as it is the capital where they have the most vehicles.

"The message to the government now is that it should divide these projects into four; divide three among the three senatorial districts and take the last one to the state capital.

"The state capital belongs to all of us and not just the Egba people. Thus, the government must pay attention to the state capital.

"Our assessment is that the current government should pay attention to all unfinished infrastructure in Abeokuta, I know it is expensive and the government is trying."

Underlining the activities planned for the anniversary of the Golden Jubilee, Odebunmi said that the club in its 50 years of existence will not cease its contribution to the development of Egbaland in all areas of human endeavors.

He listed Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka and former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Mr. Fola Adeola; Dr. Ruben Abati; Lawyer Femi Falana; the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyode, among others, are expected to grace some of the celebration activities.

The celebration according to him will take place from July 21 to August 13, 2022.
