Accord Party presidential candidate Imumolen meets Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Professor Christoper Imumolen, presidential candidate of the Accord Party, met with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

The meeting in the Ogun state capital is seen as a cementing visit as it is not the first time the 38-year-old presidential hopeful has visited the former president.

During Wednesday's visit, Imumolen was seen at one point kneeling with his head bowed and his hands holding that of the retired army general.

Imumolen, who had at other times visited critical stakeholders and senior statesmen, expressed his gratitude to Obasanjo for all he did for the country during his tenure as president - first as a military head of state (1976 to 1979), then as a democratically elected president (1999 to 2007).

The Accord Party presidential standard bearer also reminded the octogenarian leader that he (Imumolen) and other well-meaning Nigerians appreciate the work of Nigeria's founding fathers and heroes, before presenting a plaque to Obasanjo with the inscription "the labors of our heroes of the past - will never be in vain".

“The labors of our past heroes will never be in vain” is a line from the first stanza of the Nigerian national anthem “Arise, O Compatriots” which was adopted in 1978 and replaced the previous national anthem, “ Nigeria, We Hail You'.

Speaking during his visit to Obasanjo, Professor Imumolen said: "It is good to get prayers and advice from leadership icons like Obasanjo whose vast experience through direct encounters and experimentation of leadership can never be contradicted.

“There is no limit to such blessings, prayers and care for me, as I am about to use this card as a measure and energy to rewrite the leadership narrative of our dear nation and redefine the economic fortune of the Nigerian people, with the sole aim of placing Nigeria in the circle of prosperous nations.

"Our presentation of the plaque is a token of the highest appreciation for their great leadership sacrifices through time. I vehemently consult, preparatory to leading a new leadership in Nigeria as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2023, knowing that the road is difficult and the presidency of Nigeria is not for lilies.
