Now, Adele has opened up to Elle in an interview on August 15 about how harrowing the experience has been. "It was by far the worst moment of my career," she said. "By far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating."

Although Adele was mortified, her decision would upend the travel plans of countless fans, but hosting a below-average show was not an option. "There was just no soul in it," she said. "The stage setup wasn't right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give him those things in an environment also controlled."

Although the postponement was one of the darkest moments of her career, Adele says she has become a more confident performer through the experience. "The first two months were really, really tough," Adele said. "I was embarrassed. But it made my confidence grow because it was a very brave thing to do.
