Aelis Couture Fall 2022

Aelis designer Sofia Crociani brought the Italian house's latest couture collection up to date, hosting a presentation in the garden of a tucked away townhouse, away from the hustle and bustle of constant traffic of this season.

Crociani presented its collection amid the chirping of birds, to underline the codes of the house's commitment to the protection of nature. Dresses were draped and pleated in the feather-light tulle that has become a house signature. This season, she added high-necked, long-sleeved tops and structure with hemp-lined skirts for more weight and coverage than her airy designs usually carry.

Inspiration came from rediscovering an old jewelry box full of childhood dolls, and she wanted to mix styles and add color in a carefree way. "I wanted to play and find that freedom of childhood, when you mix a lot of different things, but in a sincere way," she said.

There were still plenty of her traditional rock-'n'-roll touches with an embellished denim jacket and hard-edged jewelry, sourced from found crystals and rose quartz, cascading down low-cut or embroidered fronts directly in the necklines. One of the standouts was an asymmetrical quadruple-layer silk kaftan with the quartz worked into its single strap.

She also experimented by introducing outerwear, including a militaristic cropped number and a pink puffer jacket filled with recycled cashmere, fluffy as a cloud. Crociani maintains its delicate balance.
