AFC prepares U20 U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023 draw in Tashkent

October 25 - The AFC Uzbekistan 2023 Asian Under-20 Cup Final Draw Ceremony will see the top 16 Asian teams drawn tomorrow (Wednesday) in Tashkent.

The U20 Asian Cup returns after a four-year absence due to the pandemic and will be played from March 1-18, 2023.

This is the first time that an AFC Central Zone nation has hosted the U20 competition which was originally scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in 2020 before the forced postponement due to covid.

In the last final in 2018 in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory against South Korea.

Uzbekistan qualify for the final as hosts alongside the 10 winners of the qualifying groups and the five best runners-up from the groups.

They will be divided into four groups of four teams, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

Uzbekistan will be ranked as the highest ranked member association while the team ranking of the 2018 AFC Indonesia U-19 Championship will determine the standings of the remaining contenders.

Joining Uzbekistan in Pot 1, Saudi Arabia, Korea Republic and 2014 champions Qatar advanced to the final with an unbeaten record in their Group B qualifiers.

2016 title winners Japan, 2018 quarter-finalists Tajikistan, Australia and Indonesia will be in pot 2, followed by Jordan, China PR, Iraq, quadruple champion, and 2016 semi-finalists Vietnam in Pot 3.

In Pot 4, Iran, who will be looking to end their 47-year drought for the title, will be drawn alongside Oman, Syria and the Kyrgyz Republic who return to the tournament after a 17-year hiatus.

The top four teams from the final qualify for the 2023 U20 World Cup in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11, 2023.
