After 12 years of absence, hip-hop singer Shamara returns with two singles

Sandra Harbour, also known as Shamara, is a Nigerian artist and songwriter who made her debut in 2010 with the song “My style”.

Shortly after the release of her debut single, she went on a 12-year hiatus just as her career was taking off.

Early in her career, she worked with Nigerian artists like Waje, K Solo and Dj Tee.

She also performed at the Kennis music Fiesta and Future Awards the same year.

During a panel discussion on Friday, she explained how it all happened.

"I told you I was paralyzed, I was paralyzed by love, and that's what drove me out of the music industry; I met my husband, I'm fell in love, that's the stroke I had, that's what saddened me for 12 years."

Multi-faceted woman

Shamara, who lives in Germany with her family, is back in Nigeria with a new song called "Every Woman is Beautiful".

The song, which answers seven questions for men, according to the singer, was inspired by the issues women face.

She founded the Ideal Harbor Women's Foundation in 2013, which reaches out to less privileged women, especially during pregnancy.

She said the societal issues facing women inspired the foundation.

She also dedicated her song, “Wipe Our Tear,” to Ukrainians and Nigerians killed and displaced by war and religious violence.

The eccentric singer said she would donate all proceeds from the song to charity through her foundation to help victims of war.

Threats, Opportunities

Noting that the Nigerian music industry has grown, Shamara believes she can catch up with the industry, even though she has been absent for 12 years.
