Agura: Governor of Ogun promises to fund Oba Bakre's funeral

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised that his administration will take responsibility for the burial of the late Agura of Gbagura Abeokuta, Oba Sabur Bakre.

Governor Abiodun revealed this on Friday during a condolence visit to the Council of Chiefs of the Guard.

Abiodun said the deceased monarch held a revered throne and should be given the respect he deserves.

The governor maintained that the late king's funeral activities were the responsibility of the state, saying a state government committee would be set up to work with chiefs to plan a ceremony funeral worthy of the deceased Agura.

His words: "Kabiyesi funeral activities are for the government of the state, not for Gbagura. It is a responsibility of the state. He held a revered throne and we will give him the respect, the right, the respect and celebration he deserves. We will give Gbagura the celebration he deserves.

"For the arrangement of the burial, we will set up a government committee that will work with you. As a government, we will do our best."

Abiodun sympathizes with the traditional leader's immediate family, praying for God to be a companion to the widow and children he left behind.

Bakre, the ninth Agura died Wednesday evening at the age of 61, after a brief illness.

The remains of the monarch have since been buried Thursday, according to Islamic rites.
