Aisha Buhari: Police deny knowledge of tweep's arrest

The Jigawa State Police Command said it was not involved in the arrest of a 500-level student at Federal Dutse University.

The student, identified as Aminu Muhammad, was reportedly arrested for posting a tweet apparently mocking Nigeria's First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

The tweet which was written in Hausa and accompanied by a photo of the first lady, read in English, "Mom ate the poor money and is now full."

Shortly after the tweet, Muhammad was reportedly arrested by agents of the Department of State Services, prompting a backlash from Nigerians against the service and the first lady on social media.

One of those who criticized the DSS over the alleged arrest of Muhammad was a lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.

He tweeted: “You are defending Aisha Buhari because she is someone's mother. This argument is nonsense. Thousands of people have lost their mothers to the incompetence and cruelty of Buhari's regime. Thousands of people have been orphaned by corruption in the management of funds intended to fight terrorism. »

For her part, activist Aisha Yesufu said, "Who is Aisha Buhari that an aggrieved citizen cannot talk about? Those of you who talk about her so-called powers must be wondering if you are citizens or slaves. Duniya budurwar wawa!"

Also condemning the reported arrest, social media influencer Daniel Regha said it was an abuse of power.

He tweeted: "Patience Jonathan was unfairly mocked every day when she was First Lady, no one was arrested but SSS arrested a Twitterer (Adamu Muhammed) for criticizing Aisha Buhari. Is "Is that the job of the SSS? Why don't you charge the guy in court? It's an abuse of power."

Efforts to reach DSS spokesman Peter Afunnaya were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone had not been answered at the time of this report.

While the DSS was still criticized for Muhammad's arrest, other reports (not by PUNCH Metro) stated that the student was arrested by the police.

>

Contacted, the police public relations officer for the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, said he was unaware of the arrest.

“We did not make the arrest. An arrest cannot be made in my area without my being informed,” he told our correspondent.
