Akwa Ibom 2023: Thousands flock to Senator Bassey Akpan's campaign rally in Etim Ekpo

Human and vehicular activities were halted in Etim Ekpo, a densely populated community in Akwa Ibom State, on Friday as the Youth Party (YPP) waged its block-to-block campaign for Senator Albert Bassey Akpan in the area.

This is the first time the party has held a campaign rally since Senator Akpan's incarceration.

The well-attended rally was led by Akpan's running mate, Deputy Inspector General of Police Asuquo Amba (rtd) and other party leaders.

Also In attendance was Pastor Mrs. Imabong Bassey Albert, wife of the gubernatorial candidate.

Interestingly, thousands of locals flocked to host the YPP campaign organization Akwa Ubok Abasi, despite the absence of gubernatorial candidate Senator Akpan.

Also speaking at the campaign rally, the wife of the gubernatorial candidate, Rev. Ms. Imabong Bassey Albert, said that no prison is big enough to stop the desire of the people.

She said, "Senator Bassey Albert - OBA is still on the ballot; go win and don't despair, no prison is big enough to stop the aspiration of the people."

Other party stakeholders and candidates who spoke at the rally said Senator Akpan would release Akwa Ibom from mismanagement.

He said the development was a temporary setback designed to test their faith and propel the YPP to the pinnacle of freedom.

He quoted the biblical character, Joseph, who was released from prison to become the prime minister of Egypt.

He also quoted Nelson Mandela, who was released from prison to become South African President.

“The Akwa Ibom State redemption mission remains unstoppable,” he said.

For his part, YPP State Chairman Mr. Nyeneime Andy said that the YPP is getting stronger despite intimidation.

Andy said, 'As a party we've been bullied, but with God we're stronger.'
