Akwa Ibom lawmaker empowers 160 voters

As many as 160 women and youth from the Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom received empowerment kits from their representative in the National Assembly, Representative Martins Esin.

The empowerment focused on solar installation and food catering/processing took place during a two-day program titled “Forward Oro Strategic Capacity Building and Empowerment Program” chaired by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Inland Waterways Committee, Hon. DVT. Ojema Ojotu (PDP, Benue) at the Oron Civic Center on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Speaking at the event, Rep. Esin said the training and empowerment program that took place on the 75th day of his tenure in the House of Representatives was the first formal step towards achieving of the fourth stage of its RIDE program which talks about Empowerment, including education.

“Today is exactly the 75th day of my tenure as your representative. And I'm glad I was able, in such a short time, to demonstrate my commitment to delivering on the promise I made by soliciting your votes.

“Remember that the fourth component of my RIDE program that you graciously joined is empowerment, including education. This capacity building and strategic empowerment program is my first formal step towards delivering on this part of my campaign promise. It is still early in my term. The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, accompanied by his wife, Ms. Gene Esin, said his well-received motion on the erosion of ravines ravaging communities in Iquita and Ekeya, was his first formal step in actualizing the first step. of the RIDE Agenda, which stands for Representation, promising many more motions, bills and empowerment programs during his tenure.

“The well-received motion on the threatening erosion ravaging the communities of Iquita and Ekeya was my first effort to achieve the first step of the RIDE agenda, which stands for Representation. Many other motions and bills are pending. As the House reconvenes after the recess, we will ensure compliance with its resolutions by the relevant government agencies regarding Iquita and Ekeya.

"As the term unfolds, our people have every reason to expect effective representation, inspiring leadership, massive development and strategic empowerment programs that deliver on our campaign promises," he underlines.

He, however, accused the recipients of hard work, determination and discipline, while announcing his office's plans to monitor their progress and help them modernize their businesses if they show commitment.

Esin thanked the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas Ph.D for entrusting him with the chairmanship of the Youth Development Committee and appreciated his colleagues who came from Abuja to honor the occasion.

In his speech, the President of the occasion and member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Hon. DVT. Ojema Ojotu described Rep. Martins Esin as a man groomed for the job, while praising the constituency for their insight in electing a strong, capable, energetic and intelligent representative.

“Martins is respected by other honorable Members for the value he usually brings to the table. The National Assembly is like a river without a canoe. Your ability to swim will determine what you can bring to your people. If you can't swim, you'll be lost.

“If Martins Esin was lost, he wouldn't be here. You have elected someone who has the determination and the audacity to fight for the well-being of this constituency”. The Hon. Ojotu noted.

Esin further received praise from the Deputy Chairman of the House Public Accounts Committee, the Hon. Jeremiah Umaru (APC, Nasarawa) and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, Hon. Leko Gambo Jafaru (APC, Bauchi).

The event included the handing over of certificates, toolkits, solar panel multimeter testers, stoves, four-burner gas stoves and fifty thousand naira in cash to each of the 160 beneficiaries.
